Cascadas de Baja exists within a serene section
of Cabo San Lucas,
and is in stark contrast to the commercialized north
end of the city. The desert landscape and turquoise
ocean, come together to provide a continuous sense
of refreshment at Club Cascadas. It is an unhurried
haven for tourists seeking to unwind beneath breezy
palm trees, or to meander along postcard-pretty
pathways lined with tropical plants snaking between
swimming pools and a calm ocean bay.
Cascadas was designed to inspire: it subtly draws
attention from itself and toward the beauty of its
natural setting. The buildings are whitewashed,
and the 24 round sun-dried brick edifices are sheltered
by ancient palms. The property sits across the bay
from El Arco, where the 1,000 mile length of the
Baja California peninsula comes to a breathtaking
point of gigantic rock formations known collectively
as Land's End.
The architectural artist who designed Club Cascadas
was Edward Paul Giddings. He completed his dream
project in 1985. The quality that defines his work
is a reverence for Mexican cultural and geography.
Giddings combined a romanticized country life theme
with dramatically sculptured lines, and pioneered
an appreciation for both privacy and open design
concepts.
